FIVE local players have been named in the Lancashire Boys team to take part in the Four Counties competition at West Lancashire.

The eight-strong team includes James Rooney and Louis Tomlinson from the host club.

Joining them at the Crosby links will be Sean Blinkhorne (Southport and Ainsdale), Ian Stirling (Formby) and England squad member Haydn McMullen (Delamere Forest).

The rest of the team for the tournament ? which takes place from April 2-4 ? is Sami Procter-Bouzabia (Preston), Joey Lamb (Wilpshire) and Ben Richards (Pike Fold).

ADAM Powell turned up the heat in the fourth Mansell Finishes Winter Series Pro-am with a seven birdie spree at Royal Liverpool.

The 28-year-old Hartford professional reeled off four in the opening eight holes on his way to posting an impressive five under par 67 to beat David Shacklady by a shot.

And the PGA Cup player from Mossock Hall had to settle for second spot in the team prizes by the same margin as Powell enjoyed a double pay day with clubmate Mal Wells.

ANNE Baines (Royal Birkdale), the county training officer for Lancashire Ladies, has been invited to serve on the England Golf Coaching Committee.

It is one of the five new committees formed following the merger of the English Golf Union and the English Women?s Golf Association to help run the amateur game in England.
