So you?ve landed your first job, have been putting in the hours, and are finally being sent on your first business trip.?Congrats! For some of us, traveling with your boss and representing your company can be a whole new ball game. I was a newbie at my company just a few short months ago, and when packing for my first trip, I was STRESSED OUT to say the least. So? I?ve put together a list of?business travel do?s and don?t's for you. Hopefully this list makes planning and packing for your first business trip a little easier! If I?ve left out any important tips, feel free to?share below.

Do: Pack?light. Long check-in lines, security, car rentals and/or finding a taxi can be stressful, and you don?t want to have to pull your 40-pound bag throughout the middle of chaos.?Remember? Your hotel room will probably have a hair dryer and the front desk will have any ?extras? that you forgot (or didn?t have room) to bring!

Don?t: Pack in a duffel bag. While we?re talking about luggage, let?s talk about that paisley Vera Bradley and/or athletic sports bag that you?ve been using as a suitcase for the last four years. Sadly enough, it?s time to say goodbye. Investing in a simple, black, rolling suitcase will be your best bet for business and for convenience.

Do: Pack and dress appropriately. Even if you?re leaving at 5 am on a Saturday morning, it?s still?a business?trip; therefore, you can plan on leaving your jeans and North Face at home. Dress professionally, yet comfortably, for the actual trip. If this means buying a new jacket, so be it. I guarantee that you?ll be wearing it more than once. And check the weather for your destination before you leave! There?s nothing worse than trying to sleep on a hot, three-hour flight in your stiffest jacket?

Don?t: Wait until the last minute. Do your research ahead of time. Know where your hotel is located, how you?re getting there, and allow yourself some extra time (especially if you?re traveling by yourself!)

Do: Be organized. Bring a file with all of your important travel documents. Print?boarding passes, hotel information,?agendas, and even important emails ahead of time because?you never know when that smart phone is going to die on you.

Don?t: Be afraid to take a nap. Whether you had to be at the airport really early or have time to kill between meetings, there?s nothing wrong with dozing off. In fact, my boss fell asleep before me on the plane! The entire trip doesn?t have to be business? And if you need to sneak a nap in the hotel room between meetings? Go for it.

Do: Order a drink. If you?re boss and/or colleagues order a drink when you?re all out to eat, then you should be safe to order one for yourself. But ??don?t order more than anyone else, get buzzed, or even close to drunk.

Do: Keep receipts. Who knows what you can be reimbursed for? I didn?t. You?re better off keeping every receipt from the trip to make filling out?the expense report much easier when you return.

Don?t: Forget to say thank you! Whether you met with potential clients, worked with new colleagues, or participated in a conference or training, I?m sure there?s at least ONE person that you met on this trip?who?could?use a little ?thank you? email. It?s a small and trivial task? Send your emails while waiting for your?flight the next day!

Do: Enjoy yourself.?Whatever the occasion, be sure to enjoy yourself. It?s a day out of the office and a new experience for you.

Marshall Fine: Movie review: The importance of Bully

Lee Hirsch's Bully can't help but move you. It's an important and powerful film, one that should be required viewing for kids of any age - and their parents.

With luck, The Weinstein Company will prevail in its battle against the R-rating conferred upon the film by the myopic and narrow-minded MPAA ratings board. The rating supposedly is based on the fact that several kids in the film are captured on film saying the word "fuck." Needless to say, kids of all ages have heard it - and are probably using it regularly, whether their parents know it or not. Who is the MPAA protecting?

Hirsch's film examines the cases of a half-dozen different kids around the country. And, while the right-wing crowd undoubtedly expects the kind of bullying that leads to teen suicide to be a product of the godless urban environment of the East and West Coasts, Hirsch's camera takes viewers to such urban hubs as Sioux City, Iowa, and Yazoo County, Miss. He films in Georgia, Oklahoma - hey, the kids in this film are mostly smack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt.

The film starts on a heart-breaking note in Murray County, Ga., with the parents of a teen named Tyler Long, who hung himself at 17. As his parents note, he never came home bloodied or the victim of obvious physical violence. And yet he suffered severe enough abuse from his peers that he finally ended his own life.

Hirsch checks in regularly with an Iowa 12-year-old named Alex, whose classmates are so blas? about the kind of cruelty they visit upon him that they regularly choke and punch him on the school bus in front of Hirsch's camera. Alex, bespectacled and gangly, protests, but to no avail.

The film hop-scotches around the South: to a small Oklahoma town where a 16-year-old gay teen is vilified by classmates and even neighbors; to Yazoo, Miss., where a 14-year-old girl is jailed for taking her mother's gun on the school bus and threatening her tormenters; and back to Oklahoma, where a pre-teen talks about his own history of bullying and how he changed his ways - only to see his best friend kill himself because of the bullying of others.

It also returns to Tyler's parents, as they struggle with the local school administration to get bullying taken seriously. But that is the most depressing part of the film: the inability of the schools to find an effective method to stop the abuse (and the apparent absence of the parents of bullies in the process).

At one point, Hirsch captures a vice principal at Alex's middle school, forcing two boys to shake hands after a playground altercation. One boy easily sticks out his hand when told to shake and make up; the other sullenly offers first his left hand, then a half-hearted right hand after being admonished by the vice principal.

But as she scolds the less-eager lad, you realize that he, in fact, is a long-time victim of the other boy - who obviously knew he was getting off easy with a handshake. The victim stands his ground with the vice principal, who actually tries to equate his refusal to shake hands with the constant physical and verbal abuse the victim was suffering. The same administrator can only offer platitudes and a weak "We'll take care of it" when Alex's parents confront her with Hirsch's footage of Alex being stabbed with pencils and punched on the bus.

Ultimately, of course, it's as much about the parents of bullies as the teachers and administrators - and no one is apparently doing anything meaningful. So it's up to the parents of the victims to use the Internet to start a nationwide anti-bullying campaign - which one despairing pair of parents (of another child who committed suicide) take up with a vengeance.

Hirsch's film is never sensational or manipulative - just truthful. If it's unlovely, well, pretty camerawork and slick production values go by the wayside when you have this kind of access to raw reality.

Ultimately, Bully is about having the courage to stand up to bullies - whether they're in your child's school or handing out ratings at the MPAA.

Kim Wayans, who of course has a long history in comedy, shows she has major dramatic talent, playing the homophobic mother of the main character. The cast is universally good, but Wayans is the stand-out. The main character is a black teenage girl in Brooklyn going through the coming-out process. She has fully come out to herself as a lesbian, and she has even found her way into a lesbian circle of friends. She even frequents a women's night club. But she hasn't told Mom or Dad about any of this, both of whom are homophobic. Mom is particularly venomous in her hatred of gays and lesbians. You can see that Dad, a detective in the NYPD, in his heart of hearts is not a bigot. Thrown into the mix to complicate things a little bit is a bisexual girl eager to have lesbian experiences to explore herself. But she tosses lesbians aside like useless candy wrappers after she's had her fun. If I were going to give Dee Rees advice, I would say this: Ms. Rees, in "Pariah" you started digging into the parent characters with some real psychological and artistic depth. I encourage you to go more deeply in that direction. I think your true gifts as an artist lie there. I would give anything to see a sequel where you explore what happened to that mother and what she's really fighting. You hint that her husband is beginning to stray, but I think there's more in there. Help us see it. Remember when that great schoolteacher tells Alike that she could "go deeper" with her poetry? You could go deeper with your films. I know you could.

Marco Rubio's legal team gets FEC fine cut | Naked Politics

After Sen. Marco Rubio's 2010 campaign, the Republican senator was fined $9,904 for failing to disclose information about 36 donors who gave more than $1,000 to his campaign within 48 hours of the general election, according to a Federal Election Commission filing made public this week. The donations totaled $92,440. Among the donors listed as not being disclosed in the 48-hour window? The Las Vegas Sands Corporation PAC, the political action committee of casino mogul Sheldon Adelson. His super PAC, Winning Our Future, has propped up Newt Gingrich's 2012 presidential bid with millions of dollars in contributions.

Rubio's legal team from Holtzman Vogel in 2011 fought back against the fine, successfully proving to the FEC that only six of the donors were actually not disclosed properly. The Federal Election Commission dropped the fine to $1,360.

SE Pa. church holds mock kidnapping on youth group

PITTSBURGH (AP) ? A southeastern Pennsylvania church subjected members of a youth group to a mock kidnapping and interrogations without telling them it was staged, and the outraged mother of one 14-year-old girl has filed a complaint with police.

The pastor of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God in Middletown said the church is "so saddened" that the girl was traumatized at the Wednesday evening youth meeting.

But the pastor, John Lanza, said Friday there have been emails of support from other students at the church, about 10 miles southeast of Harrisburg, because the intent was to prepare them for what they might encounter as missionaries. He didn't disclose the names of those involved but said the mock kidnappers included an off-duty police officer and a retired Army captain.

"It was a youth event, to illustrate what others have encountered on a regular basis," he said, adding that the focus of the lesson was "the persecuted church" in other countries.

Lanza said there were about 17 students at the meeting and the mock kidnappers covered the students' heads, put them in a van and interrogated them. Neither the students nor their parents were told about the raid beforehand, he said, though it was discussed with the parents of one youth who might have health issues.

TV station WHTM interviewed the girl who complained.

"They pulled my chair out from underneath me, and then they told me to get on the ground," she told the station. "I had my hands behind my back. They said, 'Just do as I say, and you won't be hurt.'"

The girl said the teens were taken to the pastor's house, where it appeared he was being assaulted. Eventually, she said, the adults in charge revealed it was a staged event.

"They heard me crying," the girl said. "Why not right then and there tell us it was a joke, when you see me crying?"

Lanza said the church has conducted similar events at least twice before, adding that "there was much thought given to the safety aspect."

"If anyone was ever uncomfortable, they would be removed" from the exercise, Lanza said, though part of the idea was to shock the students with the experience.

Lower Swatara Township police Chief Richard Wiley declined to comment until an investigation into the raid is complete. The names of the mother and daughter who complained haven't been made public.

There could be consequences if the teens didn't know what was going to happen and didn't agree to be a part of the event, Dauphin County First Deputy District Attorney Fran Chardo said.

"It's extremely disturbing," Chardo told WHTM.

Tom Copeland, who studies international affairs and terrorism at Geneva College, a Beaver Falls school that emphasizes a "Christian worldview," questioned the wisdom of submitting a youth group to a mock kidnapping.

"It just seems inappropriate for that age group. You would think there would be permission from the parents," Copeland said, adding that he's never heard of anything like that happening at a church.

He said that while there have been highly publicized episodes of violence directed against Christian missionaries in other countries, it seems those countries' local religious groups are more at risk.

One security expert said role-playing training is sometimes conducted "at the quasi-military level" for groups that are going to work in war zones.

Daniel Karson, chairman of business intelligence and investigations at Kroll, a worldwide risk consulting company with headquarters in New York, said the idea of conflict zone training "is to acclimate someone to a possible situation that might arise." The training might involve everything from what items they should take to the country to a review of who they're meeting and security conditions there, he said.

Lanza said members of the church have made numerous mission trips overseas and have learned to be cautious. He said they were planning a trip to Mexico but reviewed current news and advisories and decided it was unsafe.

Lanza said he "would love to" apologize to the girl and her mother but feels he can't until the police investigation is done. He said the church wants to keep doing the program but would make changes.

"I would find a way that we could continue to keep the shock value," he said, "but I would find a way to inform the parents (beforehand)."

China acts on prisoner organ scheme

China will phase out the practice of taking organs from executed prisoners, an official said.

The official Xinhua News Agency quoted Vice Health Minister Huang Jiefu as saying that organ donations from condemned prisoners will be abolished within five years.

It said hospitals will rely instead on a national organ donation system that is being set up.

China has a huge population in need of transplants but few donors. Most donations come from condemned prisoners.

The government says prisoners volunteer to donate organs but rights groups say there are concerns that inmates are pressured to comply before execution.

China performs more executions annually than any other country.

MILWAUKEE (AP) ? Temperatures in Wisconsin had already hit the high 60s when Gretchen Grape and her family began tapping their 850 maple trees. They had waited for the state's ceremonial tapping to kick off the maple sugaring season. It was moved up five days, but that didn't make much difference.

For Grape, the typically monthlong season ended nine days later. The sap had stopped flowing in a record-setting heat wave, and the 5-quart collection bags that in a good year fill in a day were still half-empty. Instead of their usual 300 gallons of syrup, her family had about 40.

Maple syrup producers across the North have had their season cut short by unusually warm weather. While those with expensive, modern vacuum systems say they've been able to suck a decent amount of sap from their trees, producers like Grape, who still rely on traditional taps and buckets, have seen their year ruined.

"It's frustrating," said the 69-year-old retiree from Holcombe, Wis. "You put in the same amount of work, equipment, investment, and then all of a sudden, boom, you have no sap."

Maple trees generate the most sap when cool days are followed by freezing nights. The flow begins when daytime temperatures creep into the 40s, but in some areas, nighttime temperatures have been warmer than that in the past week. Once trees bud, collection stops because hormones produced in the trees spoil the sap's taste.

Ben Schultz's family usually spends about four weeks collecting sap from their 2,500 trees in Athens, Wis. This year, they too stopped after nine days. Instead of producing 350 to 400 gallons of syrup, they made about 165, each one boiled down from about 40 gallons of sap.

"It's a 70-degree day in March and we're complaining about the weather while every other Wisconsinite is rejoicing," the 30-year-old said. "It's kind of miserable. That's money out of our pocket."

Schultz's family did better than most Wisconsin producers, however, because half of his trees are tapped with a vacuum system. Producers tap trees and insert tubes hooked to a vacuum, which draws the sap out. The systems are effective but expensive, costing about $10,000 on the low end. Suppliers say they're only cost-efficient for farms with at least 500 trees in a small area. In Wisconsin, the nation's No. 4 maple syrup maker, most producers are hobbyists who still rely on gravity to pull sap from trees with taps that drain into a bag or bucket.

In Vermont, by far the nation's leading maple-syrup producer, about three-fourths of farms use vacuum systems, said Timothy Perkins, the director of the University of Vermont Proctor Maple Research Center. He estimated they will make about 60 percent of the syrup they produced last year, while those without vacuums might make 25 percent.

Vermont farms are "doing this for a living," Perkins said. "They have to make syrup, and the only way you can be sure you're going to make a decent amount of syrup is to use the newest technology."

A vacuum system helped Dwayne Hill get 950 gallons of syrup from his 4,500 trees in upstate New York. Typically, he gets 1,500 to 1,800 gallons from his farm in Harpersfield. Overall, Hill, the president of the New York Maple Producers Association, thought the state would produce 60 to 70 percent of the 312,000 gallons it made last year.

"It's not going to be a full crop, but it's not going to be a complete bust," Hill said.

Vermont, Wisconsin, New York and Maine produce about 80 percent of the nation's maple syrup. While production is down in all four states, industry experts don't expect big price increases. Henry Marckres, a spokesman for the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, said so much syrup was produced last year ? nearly 2.8 million gallons nationally ? that this year's drop would even things out.

"You might see the average price go up 10 percent," Marckres said. "But that won't happen for a while."

Grape predicted prices could rise faster at farmers' markets and specialty shops, which tend to be supplied by hobbyists more likely to use traditional tapping methods.

Steve Anderson, who sells equipment to maple syrup producers, thought the bad year might convince many to upgrade to vacuum systems. But even if they do, there's no guarantee of success without the right weather. Anderson usually gets 2,200 gallons of syrup with the vacuum system he has on his farm in Cumberland, Wis. This year he got 400.

"If people were relying on syrup sales to pay for a tubing system, chances are they didn't make enough money this year to pay for it," he said.
