North Carolina Vs. Kentucky Features Tons Of NBA Prospects For Wizards Fans

It's never too early to think about the 2012 NBA Draft, especially because most believe the Washington Wizards will once again be one of the worst teams in the NBA. That's not the end of the world for most fans, because we all understand this rebuilding effort may take some time. But it also means that we shouldn't necessarily be excused for looking at the college game over the pro game every once in a while.

Saturday's noon showdown between No. 1 Kentucky and No. 5 North Carolina is one of those times. There are as many as 12 NBA prospects that will see action for both teams, and it's not out of the question to imagine some of them in Wizards colors. Here are the five players in the game Wizards fans should be watching especially closely.

Star-divide

5.? Michael "Kid" Gilchrist: A rugged small forward that isn't afraid to mix it up inside, Gilchrist projects as an elite defender on the next level. The question is whether he can develop an outside shot to complement his slashing ability.

4. John Henson: The North Carolina big man will remind many of JaVale McGee with his incredible length and ability to block shots. He also will remind many of McGee because he tends to think a little too highly of his own offensive game.

3. Terrence Jones: Kentucky's top returning scorer is often a force defensively, and he can be a matchup problem as a combo forward on offense. He does have a tendency to exhibit questionable shot selection, and he does often take himself out of the game.

2. Harrison Barnes: Everyone seems to love Barnes' big-shot ability and his intangibles, and you can imagine how he fits in perfectly on the wing with John Wall. He still has to answer questions about whether he can be strong enough to drive on more physical defenders. Going against Gilchrist and Jones (if he plays small forward) will be a good test for him.

1. Anthony Davis: The player many believe will be next year's No. 1 pick. A big man who plays like a guard, and does it effectively. Also: beware the brow.

Federal Study: BP Oil Spill Impact on Bluefin Tuna is Minimal (ContributorNetwork)

According to the Associated Press, a federal analysis by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of bluefin tuna, an already overfished species, in the Gulf of Mexico indicates the BP oil spill in April 2010 would not impact populations as greatly as some scientists had feared.

Computer models and projections show the spill would lead to at most a 4 percent decrease in future bluefin tuna spawning, but likely much less. This species is especially important to the fishing industry in the Gulf and following the 172 million-gallon spill, about one-fifth of the fishes' spawning habitat had been contaminated with oil. Here are some facts about the ecological impacts of the BP oil spill and plans for restoration:

* The National Wildlife Federation reported that the BP oil spill could potentially impact numerous species in many ways, including sea turtles, birds such as brown pelicans, marine mammals, and especially the egg and larvae stages of animal life cycles.

* This past spring, scientists and researchers began looking into the increased number of bottlenose dolphins covered in oil and newborn and stillborn dolphin calves that were washing ashore in the Gulf, reported Reuters.

* Scientists were able to determine that the oil found on some of the dolphins' bodies came from the BP oil spill and speculated that oil inhaled or ingested by pregnant dolphins could induce miscarriages or stillborn calves.

* AOL News noted that a scientific report released in February concluded that oil on the sea floor was not degrading as fast as indicated by an official report made by BP and that oil had suffocated crabs, starfish and other sea-dwelling animals.

* The report also concluded that much of this oil was directly from the BP oil spill since oil is chemically fingerprinted.

* Shortly after the oil spill, blue crab larvae were being found with specks of oil in them, indicating the possibility of the spill impacting the ecological food web if other animals are consuming oil-tainted organisms, reported NOLA.

* Additionally, about 40 percent of blue crab habitat in the Gulf was struck by oil contamination to some degree.

* The Chicago Sun-Times noted BP was nearing the end of oil cleanup in November after 90 percent of the Gulf coast was cleaned and was switching its focus toward restoration of impacted areas.

* BP's is legally responsible for restoration of oil-contaminated areas and the company's restoration plans include planting new plantlife, replacing sand on beaches, and establishing new marshes.

Confirming her pregnancy exclusively to Us Weekly this week, Kardashian is enjoying being pampered by her beau of five years, also dad to 2-year-old Mason.

"I like to think that I pamper her no matter what," Disick tells the new issue of Us Weekly. "Lately she's needed her typical pregnant things, like ginger ale and crackers, to hide in her purse."

GCHQ recruits spies with online code

British intelligence agency, The Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), hopes to recruit the next generation of code-crackers by challenging computer hackers to solve a mysterious puzzle on an unmarked website. The site has been online since 3 November and discussed on a variety of blogs and forums, but it is only today that GCHQ revealed its involvement.

The puzzle appears to be an image of a list of hexadecimal values disguising a keyword that would-be spies must enter to solve the puzzle, but the actual solution may be more complex.

One proposed answer indicates that the values actually convert into computer code that reveals further information, and even the image itself may contain more than is immediately obvious.

Anyone who does manage to crack the code will be offered the chance to apply for a job at GCHQ. "The digital arena is fast moving, and from a recruitment perspective we acknowledge the need to engage with prospective candidates in new and innovative ways," said a spokesman for GCHQ. "With this marketing initiative we hope to reach out to a broader audience, who may not be attracted to traditional advertising methods."

GCHQ isn't the only government agency using competitions to harness the skills of online hackers. Kenny Rogers embarks on 30th annual Christmas tour (Reuters)

NASHVILLE, Tenn (Reuters) ? Grammy winning country singer Kenny Rogers says he feels like he gets to celebrate Christmas for more than a month, as opposed to just a day or two for most everyone else.

This year superstar Rogers launched his 30th annual Christmas & Hits Tour, which began on November 25 and runs through December 23 with stops across the country. In more than three decades of performing the show, the Georgia native has honed his long celebration to perfection.

"We've done some pretty extravagant stuff over the years," the singer told Reuters. "The Christmas audiences come in to be entertained, much more so than the audience the rest of the year. They come in with a different mind-set; they are there for the purpose of being lifted up."

Rogers performs some of his hits, such as "The Gambler," "Ruby Don't Take Your Love to Town" and "She Believes in Me." But the heart of the show are his renditions of holiday favorites such as "White Christmas," "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let it Snow!," "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)" and "O Holy Night."

Thirty years ago, Rogers did not see himself doing a Christmas show, much less one he puts on year after year.

The singer recalled a performance decades ago in Branson, Missouri, and someone in the back yelling out, "Hey, it's December. Aren't you going to do some Christmas music?"

Rogers directed the band to play "O Holy Night." The next year he added two Christmas songs to his show, and slowly he added more and more until he had a lineup of holiday music.

"After about two or three years, I thought we should just do a big presentation, so I did an hour and twenty minutes of Christmas music.

"Then it kind of reversed itself where some guy yelled out for me to sing 'Ruby.' So we ended up putting together what we do now, which is half a show where we sing our hits and the other half where we sing Christmas songs."

The show features several set changes, a choir, and some children selected from local schools and choruses to sing Christmas carols, as well as Rogers' pal singer-songwriter Billy Dean.

TALKING ABOUT THE SONGS

Rogers also talks to audiences about the songs: who wrote them, and where they originated. He'll change the song list and stage events that engage the audience in the holiday spirit.

"It's a sweet little show, very family oriented, which is what it's all about," Rogers said.

"The first half of the show has the more happy Christmas songs, then the second half is more religious. Once we get into the story of the Christ child and 'O Holy Night' or 'Away in a Manger,' it becomes pretty spectacular. We end it with 'Til the Season Comes 'Round Again,' which is this wonderful song about what the Christmas spirit means to everyone."

Among his favorite memories of performing the show over three decades, he said, was sitting on stage singing "Baby, It's Cold Outside" with country singer Suzy Bogguss, who was pregnant at the time.

"I used to do 'The 12 Days of Christmas,' and I would invite 11 people up (on stage) and give them cards with 11 of the 12 days and go down the line and make them sing their part. It was one of the highlights of the show."

One year, he worked with local animal welfare groups and got some 50 dogs adopted on a single evening.

"Things like that are the little things you can do when you're out for the Christmas show that you can't do on a hits show," Rogers said.

After the current Christmas series wraps in Westbury, New York, Rogers said he will return home and share the holiday with his family.

"Normally we have a really nice tree in our house that we bought when the boys were born, but this year will be different. We just sold our big house so we'll be spending Christmas with (his wife) Wanda's sister and her family.

"No matter where we are it's a sweet time, and a very special time of the year for me."
